How To Minimize Wash Day

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

The dreaded wash day can be one of the most daunting beauty rituals. It takes a lot of time and can often be confusing to manage. However, if you plan and coordinate your wash day carefully, you can minimize the amount of time spent on this task - and with that, maximize the results your hair will get from it.

Never Detangle Dry Hair

For those with textured hair, trying to detangle dry and brittle hair is one of the worst things you can do. If you detangle dry hair, it increases the chances of breakage and split ends; this is something you want to avoid at all costs. The best way to detangle is with water and a good detangling product.

Using Forbidden Mane is always a great choice. Our Pre-Poo is packed with moisture and nourishes the scalp and strands. For those with wider strands and coils, this detangles with ease and helps reduce the time spent on hair washes.

Section Your Hair

When it is time to detangle, section your hair into 4-6 parts. This will make it much easier to detangle as you can focus on one section at a time. If your hair is thick, or if you have many layers, you can even break it down into 8 or 10 parts. By detangling one part of your hair at a time you can minimize pulling and the chances of breakage.

Wash Your Hair Twice

Once you have detangled your hair, the next essential step is to wash it. When it comes to textured hair, it’s important to shampoo twice to ensure your strands are clean and free of any residue. Be sure to use a clarifying shampoo when necessary, to clear out product and style buildup.

Condition Hair While Still In Sections

After you shampoo your hair, you should condition while it’s still in sections. Deep condition if you are planning to use heat (blow dry or flat iron). When it comes to Forbidden Mane, our Conditioner will not only restore shine, but also help to strengthen and protect the strands.

When it comes to styling there are infinite possibilities. It all depends on the look you’re going for! You can be creative and style as desired but, for necessary, be sure to always use leave-in, cream, and then oil to seal in the moisture. This is the LCO method and essential when it comes to properly styling textured hair.

We hope these tips have helped you on the journey of minimizing the time you spend in the washroom to achieve the desired look. Remember to always use the right products for your hair type and have fun! Good luck!
